Hi everyone-
I know it's been ages since my last update!
Now, it's not that nothing has been going on. It has actually been a
full period, involving an almost comical string of medical issues (I'm
fine!), some exciting international travel (London, Oslo, Copenhagen),
new projects appearing, said projects disappearing, different new
projects appearing, etc. I could be more specific, but then I'd lose
all my
mystery,
wouldn't I?
I'm hatching a couple of ideas for prospective podcasts! Nothing's
nailed down yet, so don't hold me to it, but I may be back "on the air"
sooner than later!
Here's some exciting news: A few of my songs have been recorded
recently for upcoming CDs!
Lauren Kennedy
recently
recorded "I'm Free" for her second solo CD. (If you don't have the
first one, run and get it. It's Lauren singing the
Songs of Jason Robert Brown,
produced by
JRB
himself,
and it is terrific.) For this recording, the great
Michael Starobin
(who orchestrated
my two favorite musicals of all time,
Sunday in the Park with George
and
Once on This Island)
wrote a
stunning orchestration, and Lauren, of course, sings the (heck) out of
it. I'm so pleased!
Next was the session with
Victoria
(Light in the Piazza)
Clark,
who has just started working on her debut (why has it taken this
long??) solo CD. Vicki recorded my setting of the Edna St. Vincent
Millay poem "Departure," and as usual, she was stellar, and I'm so
thrilled she has finally recorded one of these songs that were written
for her. (Did I mention that everything I write is for Vicki?) She also
recorded the hymn "How Can I Keep From Singing?" which I arranged and
orchestrated for her
Lincoln
Center
Concert last year. It came out beautifully, if I do say so
myself.
I can't wait until these recordings are released!!
Also, I wanted to let you know that I've added two more podcast songs
to my sheet music collection. Specifically, "
You're
Not Perfect Anymore," which was introduced by
Alysha Umphress,
and "
He'll
Never Get What I Do," which I sang myself. The sheet music is
available for sale on my
Music Store
page.
(If you find yourself buying multiple pieces of sheet music, be sure to
take note of the small print about shipping costs. There's something
tricky about the Paypal system for tabulating shipping fees, and I
haven't figured out a workaround yet.)
For the record, I make certain songs available as sheet music because
they are the songs for which I get the most requests. If you're burning
to have music for an as-yet-unavailable song, wage an email campaign,
and if I hear from enough people, I will take action!
Happy rest of the summer!
Best,
Jeff
