Hello, everybody, and Happy Spring/Passover/Easter!
It’s been ages since I've updated this page, so of course, there are many things to report!

First of all, I want to mention that my new song, “
My Heart Was Set on You,” was recorded by Sutton Foster for her debut CD,
Wish!
It’s a beautiful recording, and I’m so honored and proud to be a part
of it. Also, if you haven’t seen her wonderful performance as Fiona in
the terrific new Broadway musical,
Shrek, I highly recommend it!
I also want to let you know that the sheet music for “My Heart Was Set on You” is now available at my online “
music store.”
The BMI Workshop Songbook is finally done and available for purchase at the
BMI Web Store!!
In case you didn’t know, I spearheaded a project for
The BMI Workshop which involved choosing 20 great, never-before-available songs by current Workshop members and alumni, including Maury Yeston (
Nine), Robert Lopez (
Avenue Q), Michael John LaChiusa (
The Wild Party, Giant), Tom Kitt (
Next to Normal),
and many more!. These songs fill a songbook designed for performers
looking for fresh, new material for auditions, concerts, and cabaret.
Performances of these same twenty songs are also featured in episodes of
The BMI Workshop Songbook Podcast,
which include interviews with the songwriters as well as the singers
(Victoria Clark, Cheyenne Jackson, Neil Patrick Harris, Brian Darcy
James, etc). I’m excited to have my song, “Man in the Moon” as part of
this collection. The wonderful
Christine Ebersole performs it on the
BMI Podcast.

My latest extracurricular project (i.e. aside from working on two original musicals) is called
Jeff and Martha: My Year of Cooking Fabulously. Inspired by Julie Powell’s book (
Julie and Julia: My Year of Cooking Dangerously)
about tackling one of Julia Child’s classic cookbooks, I’ve
created a blog that tracks my experiences cooking my way through
Martha Stewart’s Cooking School, a wonderful new cookbook that I fell in love with recently.
I’ve
committed to finishing all the lessons and recipes at “Martha School”
and “graduating” within a year. I’m only on Day 23, and already I’ve
cooked over 50 of the 360 recipes! It's an incredibly fun, social, and
educational adventure! And get this: my blog was selected as the first
one to be featured on
The Friends of Martha Blog Network. You can read
my interview here!
Back
to the musical side: Two wonderful singers/friends have included my
song, “Hold My Hand,” on their new CDs! Rena
Strober’s
Finding Home and Ron DeStephano’s
Where is Love... And my favorite little jazz-bird muse,
Alysha Umphress, opens her debut CD,
Live at the Laurie Beechman, with my swingy song, “Celebrate!”
That’s all for now!
Best-
Jeff
